WTF I HAVE BEEN AT THIS FOR 24 HOURS AND AM ONLY DEALING 10,939M DPS!!! Using the term to describe something happening to a world is one of the many minor textual annoyances I've found in the game's writing.) The thing is that it implies a character ascending to godhood, or at least demigodhood. (Petty gripe time! The term ascend, as in ascension, is a term that probably originates from Nethack, where it was a victory, from where it went to Kingdom of Loathing, where it's a kind of victory, but really a prelude to another playthrough with more favorable statistics. There are places where you can temporarily overcome the rate difference, skills and damage boost upgrades specifically, but eventually you get to the place where it takes so long to get reasonable DPS improvements that you have to soft reset, or "ascend the world," in the game's frankly stupid parlance, to start over with extra DPS, so when you get back to that point, you'll be able to get a bit further before you reach the point of fatal frustration. This is pretty standard click game design. Komara, as you get further down the development curve and advance to new areas, the monsters steadily get more health faster than you can build your DPS. Posted by lostburner at 1:18 PM on Septem That's what I needed to quit and not come back to Derivative Clicker-whenever I felt the urge, I reminded myself that it was just a cynical, faceless, gloriously well-tuned Skinner box. Then I searched Metafilter for more information about incremental games, and I found what I needed: this Cracked article, which spelled out what I already knew: this kind of grinding game isn't even any fun, it's just very sophisticated at being literally addictive. Then I searched Metafilter for more information about incremental games, and I lost 2 days of my life to Derivative Clicker. Eventually I got fed up with the unmanageably long time in between achievements and upgrades, and ragequit! Sometimes I'd lose large portions of my day on it when I was supposed to be doing better things, and it didn't make me feel relaxed or any happier, just more frustrated and depressed. I got completely sucked down into Cookie Clicker, where I had the game running for weeks and was constantly revisiting it throughout my workday. Notification will pop up every few minutes until you take action. The new name for "clicker" is "act of cognitive terorrism." ![]() If the battery is below 30% and the charger is not plugged in, it'll show a silent notification on the bottom-right corner to plug in the charger. ![]() Keeping your laptop constantly plugged in shortens the battery life! Right-Ctrl → Win Show notification on low battery or when fully charged I still needed the Win key, so I replaced the rarely used right Ctrl key as Win key. Once you get the hang of it, I assure you you'll do clicks with godspeed. I realized I don't use the left Win key as much, so I modified its action to do left-click instead (using left-thumb). I don't like to carry a mouse around, and my HP laptop touchpad isn't much responsive, so I needed a better alternative to performing left-click. This little script has been a game-changer for me. To use a different browser instead of Microsoft Edge, Add its path instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe in the script. All running scripts can be found in the Windows tray menu. To assign a different shortcut, replace !g (here ! means Alt so !g = Alt G) in the script with your desired key combo and run again. Especially to quickly google some error from the terminal when programming. It's one of the most frequent scripts I use on a regular basis. Use alt g to open selected text in the browser and do a google search or visit the site (if it's url). You can see all scripts here: Look up selected text Make sure to put the correct path of your ahk scripts in that file first. Put script_autorun_startup.vbs at startup folder.Copy a script ( *.ahk) -> go to that Startup folder -> right-click and select Paste shortcut. It'll open explorer at something like this path: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.Open startup folder: open Run window by Win R and then write shell:startup and enter.exe program that would run without installing AutoHotkey software on a computer. Bonus: you can right-click and Compile script to make it a standalone. ![]() You can also run scripts by double-click or do right-click -> Open with -> AutoHotkey
